Nilsa Cruz Perez

New Jersey State Senator

Nilsa Cruz Perez is a Senator in the State of New Jersey since 2014. Previously she was an Assemblywoman who represented the City of Camden in the New Jersey General Assembly since 1995. She was the first Hispanic woman elected state legislator in New Jersey’s history. Nilsa was born and raised in Puerto Rico and attended the University of Puerto Rico studying political science.  A former Assistant Majority Leader, Assemblywoman Cruz-Perez was selected as Deputy Majority Leader in January 2006. As member of the New Jersey Assembly, she has served as Chairwoman of the Consumer Affairs Committee and Vice-Chair of the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, among other positions.
